He remains deeply engaged in Pennsylvania’s legal, judicial, and community institutions. A proven bipartisan leader, he continues to serve in influential judicial and community leadership roles.

Senator John Rafferty rejoined the firm in an Of Counsel capacity after serving four terms as Pennsylvania State Senator for the 44th District. He is currently Vice Chair and a two-term member of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. During his tenure in the Senate, John chaired the Transportation Committee, served as Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and sat on the Appropriations, Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, and Law & Justice Committees. He was the prime sponsor of Act 89—the state’s comprehensive transportation funding law—and led major updates to Pennsylvania’s DUI legislation. As Chairman, he presided over numerous business and confirmation hearings and helped advance bipartisan legislation.
John also serves on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency as Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward’s designee to the Judicial Computer System Financial Audit Committee, and he was appointed to the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing in 2013.
Before his legislative career, John held multiple local public service roles: he served on the Methacton School Board (1980–1984), represented Methacton on the North Montco Vo-Tech Joint School Authority, was elected to the Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors, and completed an eight-year term on the Montgomery County Board of Assessment Appeals.
A Lower Providence resident, John is Vice President of the Foundation at Shannondell Board of Directors and serves on the Foundation Board of the State Fraternal Order of Police. In 2023, he received the Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce Marvin J. Lewis Community Service Award for his longstanding contributions to the community.
John earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, a master’s degree from Beaver College (now Arcadia University), and his J.D. from Temple University Law School.
